Hematopathology Fellowship . Our program has the capabilities to train individuals in the practice of hematopathology but we highly encourage academic pursuits. We believe that these goals can be achieved with the resources available within our department. Whether a fellow is preparing for a position in private practice, which requires special expertise in hematopathology, or an academic career in hematopathology, our faculty has a commitment to training fellows as good diagnosticians as well as clinical consultants and laboratory managers. Fellows who want to pursue an academic career may want to pursue an additional year of training in either clinical or basic research.
Hematopathology involves the diagnosis of blood, bone marrow and lymphatic conditions such as lymphomas, leukemias, myelodysplasia, myeloproliferative disorders, anemia and immunodeficiency related conditions. The hematopathology fellowship program is a one-year training program, fully accredited by the ACGME, and currently offers 1 positions annually for those at a level PGY IV or above. Training occurs predominantly at the Tulane.
